About the Library

The Lake County Library has four convenient locations: the main branch in Lakeport, the largest branch in Clearlake, the newest branch in Middletown, and our historic branch in Upper Lake. The main activities of the library are providing materials to the public free of charge for their informational, recreational, and cultural needs, providing free access to the internet via wifi and our public computers, and promoting reading, literacy, and lifelong learning through a variety of programs and events. 

The library is primarily funded through a dedicated local property tax passed by voters in 1974. Library materials are primarily funded through donations from the Friends of the Lake County Library, Friends of Middletown Library, and individual community members. A small grant from the California State Library and donations from the Lake County Literacy Coalition fund the Adult Literacy Program.

About the Director

The Library Director holds the official title of County Librarian and oversees and directs the functions and activities of all branches of the library system. The current County Librarian is Christopher Veach, appointed in June of 2013 by the Board of Supervisors. Christopher holds a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University and has worked for the Lake County Library since 2007.
